Dhangalau Waku Uman

This artwork is an abstract story piece.

The weaving progression symbolises families in the community carrying out important roles and responsibilities leading up to a ceremony. The intricacy represents the hard work and commitment from each family member.

Dhangal (Dugong) is being prepared for part of the after ceremony feast. Dhangal have held a unique importance in our culture for thousands of years.

The woven circles represent families from afar reuniting at the ceremony for storytelling, dancing and bonding over a feast of Dhangal and other foods. This ceremony will play a special role in weaving harmonious relationships between families.
